Owner, Kenosis Center
Welcome to another episode of The Coach’s Circle Podcast!
Our show is all about showing you everything the world of coaching has to offer–what it is, what it isn’t, and whether it might be the right career choice for you.
Through our conversations with professionals in a variety of different mental health and wellness fields, you’ll gain valuable, real-world insight into their careers and consider how their experiences might impact your own career choices. Our interviews will feature coaches, therapists, counselors, personal trainers, and other professionals who incorporate coaching into their practices. Our hope is that these varied perspectives will help you come to understand exactly the type of coach you were meant to be.
Today’s special guest is Dave Turo-Shields. A therapist for 32 years and a coach since 2006, he is the founder of Kenosis Counseling Center with 3 locations in the Indianapolis area.
- How a baseball coach first inspired Dave’s path to a career helping others
- The meaning and significance behind the name Kenosis
- The impact of COVID-19 on Dave’s therapy practice
- Why Dave feels that coaching and therapy share more similarities than differences
- The most rewarding and challenging aspects of Dave’s career
“My perspective is a little bit interesting in that I have never believed that there is much of a difference at all between therapy and coaching. The only danger for coaches is getting involved with somebody […] who’s struggling with a moderate to severe mental health disorder. That’s the one caveat. We do many, many of the same things in counseling as coaches do in their practices.”
